Brit pack expands as Sean Beattie signs up

28 May 2016

Edinburgh born left winger Sean Beattie has boosted the British contingent on the Capitals 2016-2017 roster by agreeing to sign on for next season.

At 21 years of age the 6ft 2” and 192lb player is entering his fifth as a member of the Elite League Capitals squad. Having come through the junior ranks Beattie moved in to the Capitals SNL side where his performances quickly caught the eye.

In 2012-13 he began to split his time between SNL and Elite league. Beattie played a significant role in the treble winning SNL side of 2013-14 (9 goals and 10 assists in 15 SNL games) and moved permanently in to the Elite League squad the following season.

Last season saw him given increased ice time and he was to score his first Elite League goals (3) during the season. As he enters his 3rd season at Elite League level Beattie will be seen as someone who can use his natural size and strength to good effect.

On signing up for next season Sean said “Last year I thought I developed well with my game and playing thanks to the ice time I was getting. For the upcoming season the biggest goal for our team without a doubt is to make the playoffs and I’d like to see us finish the season at the top end of the table. I’m also excited about  Michal Dobron coming in to coach the team this year. I played with him a few seasons back and as a player he showed incredible commitment and discipline both on and off the ice. That’s going to help him coach a good strong Capitals team for the up and coming season.”

Coach Michal Dobron said “I remember Sean as being a good young player from a couple of seasons ago and I’m told he’s getting better each year. He’s a big player physically. As a young local player I want to help him develop further this season. He’s going to be another important player for us as we build our 2016/17 squad and I look forward to working with him.”

Retaining Sean Beattie, one of the most talented local players to come through the Edinburgh ranks in recent years is another important step forward in building a strong Capitals 2016/17 squad capable of success.
