Capitals sign Netminder Tyler Beskorowany

21 December 2017

The Edinburgh Capitals have moved to strengthen its roster with the signing of 27 year old Canadian netminder Tyler Beskorowany, who will replace current netminder Pavel Shegalo as the clubs starter.

Beskorowany is a formidable presence in nets standing at 6’4 and 212 lb and is a netminder with an impressive career to date. From Ontario in Canada, Tyler is a former NHL draft pick having been selected in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Dallas Stars.

Following a strong junior career in the Ontario Hockey League, Tyler made the breakthrough in to the AHL in 2010-2011 signing for the Texas Stars (affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars). Between 2010-2014 Tyler made 64 appearances in the American Hockey League (he has played 66 times in the league to date) and split his time between the AHL and ECHL during that time. In his first season as a professional in 2010-2011 Tyler made it to the ECHL All Star game.

Between 2014 and 2016 Tyler played for Dusseldorfer and Nurnberg in the DEL (Germany's top league) and had a hugely impressive win and save percentage record. In 2015-2016 he was named the DEL Netminder of the year, a notable achievement in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Tyler is the quality of player the Edinburgh Capitals have been looking to build their team around and whilst at this stage in the season the market can be limited, when the club were aware Tyler was available it moved quickly to secure Beskorowany’s signature.

Jock Hay said, “My co-coach Raz (Mike D’Orazio) played with Tyler in juniors and he rates him highly. His signing is a good move and a signal of the desire of our club to improve. We need to focus on building from the back and we are optimistic that we can have a better second half of the year.”

Tyler Beskorowany commented, “I know what to expect in Edinburgh, I’m expected to be a part of improved results. We’re looking to get the paperwork out of the way and have me arrive during the first few days in 2018. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

The Capitals hope to welcome Tyler to Edinburgh the first week in January and will keep fans posted as the details of travel are confirmed. Please give Tyler a warm welcome Caps fans.
