25 year old Latvian defenceman Rihards Grigors has committed himself to the Capitals for season 2017/18.
Locally based Grigors joined the club at the beginning of last season and is a player who’s gritty style of play instantly made a positive impression with both team mates and the Capitals fan base. The 5ft 11” and 185lb defenceman proved an excellent addition to the Capitals squad and iced in 24 games in season 2016/17. Grigors is a player who has an aggressive style, defends his zone well and is willing to protect his team mates when required.
In terms of experience, prior to joining the Capitals last season Grigors had played most of his career to date in Latvia, but also has experience playing in Germany, Finland and Hungary.
This season the player is keen to progress his career in the Elite League and will look for every opportunity to impress new Head Coach Dmitri Khristich as he seeks to represent the club more regularly.
On his return a fellow returnee Mike D’Orazio said “Grigors was a stand up teammate both on and off the ice. He did not hesitate to stick up for his teammates and he was very steady at the back. I’m very happy to hear that he is returning to the Capitals“
On signing up for the coming season, which starts on August 29th with a home game vs Manitoba, Grigors said “I am very excited to be back at the Edinburgh Capitals again for the coming season. I’m really looking forward to working under the new Head Coach, Dmitri Khristich and being part of the Capitals. It’s an exciting season ahead for us and I will do my best every game to help the team be successful”.
