Guildford Flames snapped their two game losing streak with a convincing win against the Edinburgh Capitals at The Spectrum on Saturday night.
Facing the Scottish side for the first time since 2005, defenceman Carl Ackered put the Flames ahead after just 36 seconds as the home side heavily outshot their opponents during the first 20 minutes.
A quick fire double from Ian Watters and Mikael Lidhammar in the final minute of the frame put Guildford firmly in the driver’s seat, before Brett Ferguson secured a second period brace to put the Surrey side 5-0 up after 40 minutes.
Flames leading scorer John Dunbar added another goal to his season tally seven minutes into the third period, with British forward Ben Davies completing the rout mid way through the period.
Goaltender Chris Carrozzi finished the game with 19 saves to secure Guildford’s first shutout since joining the Elite League in front of a sell out crowd at The Spectrum.
