Jay King back for the Capitals 2017/18 campaign

17 June 2017

21 year old defenceman Jay King has confirmed his return to the Edinburgh Capitals for the 2017/18 Elite League season.

Edinburgh born King enters his 6th season at Elite League level with his home town club. He is a graduate of the Edinburgh Capitals Academy which is focussed on nurturing young talent as players seek to move through the junior ranks and make the step up to Elite league level.

Jay made his debut as a sixteen year old for the Edinburgh Capitals Elite league squad during the 2012/13 season and over six seasons has made over 200 Elite League (and cup) appearances for the club.

As he developed through the junior ranks King was recognised internationally by Scotland at various age groups. He also had the honour of making his international debut for Great Britain at U-20 level during the 2014-15 season when he was selected to represent GB at the Division 1 World Championships in France. King and the GB U-20 team won Bronze medals in the tournament.

Jay King is a hugely popular player with Capitals fans and team mates, and there is no doubt he is excited by what is developing at the Capitals this summer. On signing he said “I’m excited to get started working under coach Khristich. I have a feeling playing for a non-playing coach will really help me progress and bring out the best in my game. With the news that Pavel Vorobyev is returning too it gives us a really good start to building our offense. I really can’t wait to get started and hopefully the fans are going to have a lot to cheer about this season, and that they see me contribute more to the team in 2017/18 as I develop further.”

From his base in the US Head Coach Dmitri Khristich said “Jay King is a local guy from Edinburgh and I know he is proud to play for this team and represent the Capitals. He’s played with team for a number of years, I’m told since he was 16, so it’ll be good to have him as part of the squad as others settle in. He isn’t a big player in terms of size, but we’ll focus on him using his talent to make smart plays, to be in the right place at the right time. I know he’s played as a forward and on defence so understands both sides of the game. I’m looking forward to helping him develop further as a player”.

Welcome back Jay King for the Edinburgh Capitals 2017/18 campaign.
