Nikita Kolesnikovs back to boost Capitals defence
25 year old Latvian defenceman Nikita Kolesnikovs has re-joined the Capitals and the 225lb defenceman will add a physical presence to the Capitals blue line
6ft 4” Kolesnikovs first iced with the club in 2015-2016 when he played in 19 games scoring 3 goals and assisting on a further eleven for an average of 0.74 PPG.
He joins the club following a season in the LNAH (North American Hockey League) which is based in Quebec, Canada. Prior to joining the Capitals the former Latvian junior international also boasted experience playing in Norway, Italy, Latvia and Slovakia.
Kolesnikovs is a player who enjoyed his short time in Edinburgh and was reportedly close to a return last season. However whilst that didn’t occur he did keep in touch with Capitals General Manager Scott Neil and is excited to help boost the clubs fortunes.
He said “I’ve been in touch with Scott since I left Edinburgh. We spoke recently, I needed a new challenge and the call from Edinburgh came at the perfect time. I know we need to work hard and the position we are in currently, but I want to make my goal this season to work hard and help the team make the play offs. It’s a big ask, but I want to help the squad use that as our target. I am hoping to be in the line up this weekend“.
The club welcomes Nikita back to Edinburgh.
