Edinburgh Capitals have bolstered their offense considerably following the capture of talented Slovakian forward Marek Tvrdon, a 2011 draft pick of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings.

The 6ft 2” and 209lb powerfully built player can play on either wing which will be a huge bonus as the season progresses.

Tvrdon developed in his home town of Nitra playing at U-18 and U-20 level for HC Nitra. In 2010 he moved to Vancouver signing for WHL club the Giants. Over the next 4 seasons Tvrdon scored an impressive 134 points in 119 games in the WHL – which led to his pick in 2011, Round 4, by the Detroit Red Wings.

Tvrdon broke in to the professional ranks in 2013-2014 playing 22 games for the Wings affiliate Tolledo Walleye in the ECHL. He scored 13 points for Toledo and also made an AHL debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Between 2013 and 2017 whilst playing for the Griffins the forward played in 66 AHL games recording 35 points, and an additional 70 points in 90 games at ECHL level. Last season he split is time between the Indy Fuel in the ECHL before moving home last December to end his season playing 24 games for HK Nitra in Slovakia.

The capture of a powerful forward with the ability to provide an offensive threat was exactly wat the club felt was required – Marek Tvrdon fits the bill perfectly.

On signing for the club Tvrdon said “I’m really happy to have been given the chance to come to the Edinburgh Capitals this season. I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Elite League and I’m coming over to give the club and its fans everything I can to ensure success this season. I’m looking forward to getting started”
