24 year old Latvian defenceman Rihards Grigors has signed up for season 2016-17 with the Edinburgh Capitals Elite League squad. Grigors played as a trialist with the club last weekend in two exhibition games with the Capitals, and his displays were enough to win him a contract for the coming campaign.
Grigors has played the majority of his career in Latvia, but has also had stints in Germany, Finland and Hungary. Last season Grigors played with Zemgale in Latvia, and he was rewarded for his play over the course of the season with an appearance in the Latvian All Star game.
The 5ft 11" and 185lb blue liner has already slipped seamlessly in to the group formed over the summer during training this week.
On signing, Grigors said "I'm very happy that I've been offered the chance to sign for the Edinburgh Capitals. I had contacted the club and have pushed to be considered. I got the chance to trial last weekend and am happy to have been signed for the coming season. Last weekend for me was about getting used to my team mates, but also the pace of the Elite League. I'm looking forward to working with Michal and the team over the coming weeks and playing my part in helping the club this season".
Edinburgh Capitals coach Michal Dobron said "We spoke with Rihards and we agreed to a trial. I thought he did well and has fitted in straight away with the team. He adds depth to the squad in defence and I'm glad to have him on board for the season"
Edinburgh Capitals wish to welcome Rihards to the club.
The club continues to evaluate its roster and consider options to add to the squad as it seeks to create the strongest line up possible for the 2016-17 campaign.
