Manchester Storm blitzed their way back to the top of the Elite League with a convincing 7-1 win over bottom of the table Edinburgh Capitals.
There were doubles for three players as Ryan Finnerty’s side took full advantage of Nottingham Panthers’ inaction to return to the league’s summit.
They got themselves in front as in the first period as Gerard Hanson opened the scoring to give them an advantage.
Sergei Banashkov pulled Edinburgh level with a chance a couple of minutes later, but Storm got their lead back as Luke Moffatt set up Matt Beca for their second.
The Storm reasserted themselves on the game during the middle session as Dane Byers got a marker on the powerplay to open a two-goal lead.
Then they found another gear as Scott Pitt picked up Manchester’s fourth in the latter stages of the second period.
This triggered a flurry as Hanson got his second, as did Byers to put Finnerty’s men into a comfortable 6-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Pitt added his second during the final period to wrap up a successful night for the home side, while Edinburgh’s winless run was extended to 13.
