This weekend the Edinburgh Capitals play rivals Fife Flyers twice, first in Kirkcaldy on Saturday before facing off again on Sunday, 6pm here at Murrayfield Ice Rink.
The Capitals go in to the double header having seen a slight upturn in form with two wins in three at home. Those wins came against Coventry Blaze a fortnight ago and then Dundee Stars last weekend. A 5-3 loss in mid-week at home to Cardiff Devils having led 2-0 after the first period was a dissapointing final result, but the display was by no means without its high points. Man of the match Callum Boyd scoring and earning Man of the Match was certainly one such highlight.
The Fife Flyers are this weekends opposition and the Kirkcaldy based side are currently 8th in the Elite Ice Hockey League. The Flyers have 20 points from 16 games and have games in hand over the sides above them. They are back stopped by Amercian netminder Andy Isles who is having a strong season in nets and forwards Evan Bloodoff and Danick Gauthier lead the way in scoring with 19 points each. Schaber, Leblanc and Heelis are also all in fine form with 18 points each.
For the Capitals the squad is now stronger following the easing of a long list of injuries to the likes of Vorobyev, Banashkov, Anderson and Captain Mike D'Orazio and the signing of Nikita Kolesnikovs. As lines begin to settle the Capitals will be looking to make an impression on Saturday night away, before looking to make it 3 wins from 4 at home on Sunday. The club are led in scoring by Mike Cazzola with 16 points with Sergei Banashkov having a good season to date scoring a point a game (12 points in 12 games). Vorobyev and Anderson follow them in the standings with 12 points and 9 points respectively, both players having their season impacted by injury.
