Tough Canadian forward Ian Schultz joined the club from Bentley Generals of the Chinook Hockey League (where last season he picked up the Allan Cup).
Schultz developed as a Junior playing in his native city for the Calgary Hitmen. During his time with the organisation he won the WHL Championship in his final season, captaining the side to the title. In 2008 Ian was a 3rd round draft pick by the St Louis Blues.
During his pro career Schultz has represented the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL, and also the Allen Americans in the ECHL where in 2014-15 he won the Kelly Cup. Schultz made a huge contribution during the cup run with 16 points in 17 games, along with 51 penalty minutes.
Schultz brings toughness and skill to the Caps roster and of his signing Michal Dobron said “Ian was a player who when we realised was open to a move to Europe we moved fast to sign. Caps fans will love him, he is an offensive threat but also happy to protect the team, something I felt we needed. Players like Ian, who have toughness and skill are not easy to find, we’ve just brought in someone who I know the fans are going to love every single game.”
