Matt Tipoff is a Right Wing who joined the club from St Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada. At the age of 15 the Toronto born forward played minor hockey for Markham Waxers where he centred a line that included current Tampa Bay Lightning NHL star Steve Stamkos on his wing. Between 2006-2010 Tipoff played Junior hockey for the Belleville Bulls before completing his Junior career at the Kitchener Rangers. In total through his Junior career Tipoff scored an impressive 180 points in 316 games within the Ontario Hockey League.
Tipoff attended Saint Mary’s University for 5 years and in 123 games scored 116 points - 33 goals and 83 assists. He was part of a highly successful programme at SMU and the University came close to winning the coveted University Cup last season, reaching the semi-finals.
On signing Tipoff coach Michal Dobron said “Matt will play an important role for us this season. He will bring great passing ability, but also knows how to score goals. He will help our special plays too, he’ll be very important on the power play and penalty kill.”
