Coventry Blaze continued in their quest to secure a playoff berth with a strong home performance against Edinburgh on Saturday night.
Ryan Dingle put the Blaze ahead after just 54 seconds before Marc-Olivier Vallerand added a second for the home side late in the period to give the West Midlands side a handy advantage after 20 minutes of action.
Former Blaze forward Patrick Moisio got the Capitals on the board four and a half minutes into the second period but a pair of goals from Ben Lake, just two minutes apart, ensured Coventry would take a solid lead into the second intermission.
Gaelan Patterson added a fifth goal for the Blaze just over two minutes into the final period, with Vallerand completing his brace mid way through the frame.
Coventry moved further ahead shortly after, Adam Courchaine finding the back of the net for the home side.
Moisio added a second goal for the Capitals just over five minutes from the end but it was little more than a consolation marker for the Scottish side as the Blaze secured the points.
