Brendan Brooks scored a hat-trick as Braehead Clan tightened their grip on the coveted eighth spot with a comfortable 7-2 win over Edinburgh Capitals.
The Caps had the better start though when Mike Cazzola turned a blue line shot past Ryan Nie in Braehead’s goal inside the opening minute.
Although Dillon Lawrence hit the post, Clan soon recovered as Brendan Brooks scrambled his chance into the net to draw the home side level.
Adam Brace soon gave Braehead the lead when he fired a shot from point low underneath Capitals netminder Jordan McLaughlin.
Then Michal Gutwald finished one off with a one-timer as John Tripp’s side opened up a 3-1 lead by the end of the first period.
Landon Oslanski sent one into the roof of the net early in the second before Edinburgh hit back with Dillon Lawrence scoring from the right.
However Braehead found another gear as Cameron Burt drove a powerful effort home followed by Brooks adding his second of the game.
Another from Brooks to complete his hat-trick put the hat on a good performance from John Tripp’s men, who move two points clear of Coventry Blaze in the standings.
