A Welcome Return To Edinburgh For Forward Robertson

22/07/2022

Edinburgh Capitals can confirm the signing of forward Aaron Robertson. The 24 year old needs no introduction to Edinburgh Capitals fans after being part of the Elite Ice Hockey League team that iced back in 2017-18.

Aaron grew up playing in the Kirkcaldy Junior system along with his brother, Caly. Both are the sons of former Caps forward, Iain Robertson, who was a teammate of Coach Steven Lynch at Edinburgh, Fife and Paisley.

Back in 2014-15, Aaron stepped up to play his first SNL game for the Kirkcaldy Kestrels during an impressive junior campaign for Fife Falcons U20 where he scored 15 goals and 26 assists. The following season, Aaron made the move over the Forth to sign here in Edinburgh with Murrayfield Juniors U20s before returning once again to his hometown club, the Falcons, the year after. Aaron also played up with the Kestrels in the SNL.

In the 2017-18 season, Aaron was offered a great opportunity to further his career as he signed with the Capitals EIHL side along with being eligible to still play U20s with the Juniors and with the Capitals SNL side. Aaron played 34 Elite League games and gained valuable experience alongside top forwards such as Mike Cazzola and Pavel Vorobyev.

At the start of the 2018-19 season, Aaron remained in Edinburgh, this time signing with newly formed Murrayfield Racers in the SNL. It was an impressive season, with Aaron scoring 11 goals and 29 assists to finish second in the club scoring whilst winning the SNL League title and the Stuart Robertson Cup

Aaron was on the move again in 2019-20 this time up to Dundee to sign with the Comets. Another impressive campaign saw Aaron as the top scorer for the team with 39 points. Sadly, due to the pandemic, Aaron’s career was paused but he returned to the ice last year and won the SNL League title back home again with the Kirkaldy Kestrels.

Like Chad Smith. Coach Steven Lynch will rely on Aaron to lead the way this season. “When I spoke with Aaron, he intimated that he was looking for a change as he wasn’t enjoying hockey the way he used to. I know that the Capitals and their fans will reignite his love for hockey and when that happens, we have a very skilful player in our line-up. Aaron sees the game well, can make a good pass and isn’t afraid to try things others often won’t. He’s another player that I’ve known since he was a youngster playing junior hockey and worked with him in the National Program where he represented Scotland in almost every age group. This is another good signing for us that proves that the Capitals are here to challenge for silverware this season.

The Scottish Internationalist cannot wait to return as a Capitals player. “It’s great to be back in Edinburgh with the Caps. The last time I was here things didn’t end the way we wanted so I’m excited to get back at it in the SNL. It looks like we’re building a pretty solid and competitive team and we’ll be looking to hit the ground running as a unit. Hopefully challenging the top teams from the get-go. We want to put on a show for all of the fans that have been waiting for an Edinburgh team for a while now.

Steven Lynch has been very aggressive in building his team quickly and more signing news will follow within the next few days.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
