Edinburgh Player Delighted To Be Back Home

18/07/2022

Ross Borwick is delighted to have been offered a place with the Edinburgh Capitals team for the forthcoming Scottish National League campaign.

Ross is an Edinburgh born player who progressed through the Murrayfield Junior system, with a brief stop with the Fife Flames, at the U16 level. He then returned to his hometown team to play the remainder of his junior days at Murrayfield.

In 2017-18 Ross split his time between the U20s while also stepping up for his first taste of SNL hockey with the Capitals. The following season, his last as a junior, saw him split his time with the newly formed Murrayfield Racers in the SNL.

It was to be a highly successful spell with the Racers for him between 2018-20. He won a number of trophies, most notably the SNL league title, and was part of the NIHL North 1 Cup winning team. That winning mentality will be a huge asset both on and off the ice for the Capitals this season.

The 22 year old is versatile and can play forward or defence. This will give Coach Steven Lynch good options as the season progresses. Lynch was pleased to confirm Ross as part of his line-up for the campaign ahead. “I enjoyed the chat I had with Ross a few days ago. He has clearly missed competitive hockey since Murrayfield closed due to Covid and it took probably around 45 seconds into the conversation for him to say he’d be joining the team this year which was exactly what I wanted to hear. I have known him since he was a junior player and have watched him develop into a solid SNL player who can play either forward or defence if required, which could become invaluable to us as the season goes on. It’s also great to have Edinburgh guys on the team, who have progressed through Murrayfield Juniors, and Ross will hopefully be the first announcement of many that fill that category.

Edinburgh born Ross excelled in junior hockey and represented Scotland from U11 to U15. When asked about his thoughts on signing again with the Edinburgh Capitals he said, “It’s very good to be back playing for a team in Edinburgh again. I’ve missed the ice rink and everything that is associated with it. Obviously, I played with the Racers and Caps SNL teams previously and won a few trophies with them so I hope we can replicate winning ways with the team this year and keep the fans entertained. It was a no-brainer to come back and play at Edinburgh, it’s where I’ve played since I was 6. I’m also looking forward to being coached by Steven, he’s a competitive coach and knows what he’s talking about. I hope all the fans are excited about watching us back playing again! See you soon.”

More signings will be announced in the days to come.

LET’S GO CAPITALS
