Edinburgh Trained Black Delighted To Be Back

30/07/2022

Steven Lynch has today confirmed forward Kieran Black will be part of the Edinburgh Capitals roster for the upcoming Scottish National League campaign. Kieran arrives back at the Capitals having played in the SNL with the club several years ago.

The 27 year old forward progressed up through the Murrayfield Junior system and has represented Scotland at both U17 and U19 levels. Kieran was a big goal scorer in his last few years as a junior. Most notably in the 2014-15 season as a U20, he posted 20 goals and 11 assists in only 11 games.

Natural progression saw him step up to the Capitals SNL team where he would be part of the team that won the SNL League title in 2013-14. In 2012-13, he made one appearance in the Elite League for the Capitals as part of the Capitals Academy programme.

Kieran had a spell out of hockey from 2017-19 before returning to the ice and signing with Murrayfield Racers in the 2019-20 season. This was a successful campaign for the team and he lifted the NIHL North 1 Cup and also the Stuart Robertson trophy.

Edinburgh born Kieran is relishing the opportunity to be back once again as a Caps player. “I played with Murrayfield Juniors my full childhood. After I hit SNL age I played for a few years before I had a break due to starting a business and working away from home most of the time. I was playing reccy for the Edinburgh Knights last season as we had no rink or team, which actually was a lot of fun and beneficial to get some game time on the ice. When I heard about the Caps coming back and the new coach, which we all know of his capability, I couldn’t say no. What we had before was amazing and to have the chance to be part of it again would be silly not to grasp the opportunity. I’m determined to come back flying this season after a very long unforeseen break and hopefully be a big impact on the team”

Coach Steven Lynch insists that Kieran is another important part of the team. “All the Edinburgh guys I have spoken to have all said the same thing to me about how they have missed Murrayfield Ice Arena and competitive hockey. Kieran is no different. The chats I have had with him have all been positive about him returning and at 27, he will bring some knowledge and experience to the line-up. I have coached him before when he played his part in Scotland U19s first ever win against England in 2014. I know what type of player we have signed and I’m delighted he’s on board for the season.”

Further signings will be released in the days to come.
