Former Racers Forward Joins The Capitals

24/07/2022

The newest signing for the Edinburgh Capitals is forward Jack Wright who will join the roster for the 2022-23 campaign. Wright will be a familiar name to fans of Edinburgh hockey as he was part of the Murrayfield Racers team of 2019-20.

Jack was born in England but moved to Switzerland as a kid and this is where he learned his trade as a hockey player. He progressed through the Villars Hockey Club before joining the Senior Villars HC team and playing in the Swiss 1st Division back in 2016-17. For the following three years, Jack was part of the Villars roster before deciding to move to Edinburgh in the summer of 2019.

University was the main reason for Jack moving to Scotland and he was able to sign with the Racers and continue his hockey journey. Jack’s campaign with the Racers was curtailed due to injury. He was then part of the NIHL North 1 Cup and Stuart Robertson trophy wins.

The following year he re-signed with the Racers but was unable to play as the Racers did not participate in the league that year.

Jack is delighted to have signed up for the coming SNL season and said, “I’ve signed for the Capitals because I am a student at the University of Edinburgh and have missed hockey so much over lockdown. I used to play for the Racers so Murrayfield is one of my favourite rinks. I grew up playing in Switzerland in the junior leagues there. I’m very excited to get back on the ice, I played all of last year for the University reccie team which was great but I’m excited to play at a stronger level again.”

The 23 year old is another important part of Steven Lynch’s team and the Coach is happy to have Jack as a part of his new team. “Jack will be back in Edinburgh to finish University this year and will be a good addition to our team. He’s another player that has suffered due to the closure of Murrayfield Ice Arena where he has not been able to play at the level he would have liked for the last two years so, like Ross Borwick, it was a quick decision from him to return to play. Jack will be a dependable and important player for us as we go through the season and I’m delighted that he’s on board for the next year.”

The Edinburgh Capitals roster is now starting to take shape and further signings will be announced soon.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
