Scottish Internationalist Takes His First Steps Into SNL Hockey

21/07/2022

Edinburgh Capitals have confirmed the signing of 18 year old defenceman Aiden Paterson.

Aiden joins the Edinburgh Capitals after being signed by Murrayfield Racers for the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately, the Racers were unable to ice that campaign and the youngster will now take his first steps into SNL hockey as a Capitals player.

As a youth hockey player, Aiden progressed through the Lanarkshire Junior system. He also had spells with Solway Sharks U16s and Fife Falcons U20s. Aiden has represented Scotland at U15 and U17 levels showing he is a very promising prospect. Coach Steven Lynch commented, “Aiden has been taught well, coming through the Lanarkshire Lightning Junior Club, has represented Scotland at U15 & U17 and trialled for GB. He is a smooth, puck moving defenceman who keeps his job simple and effective. At 18 he is also still eligible to play for the U19 so he ticks a lot of boxes for us and shows that we are committed to developing young talent. He was disappointed after signing for the Racers two years ago and not getting a chance to play due to Murrayfield’s prolonged closure so I know he is excited about the prospect of playing for the Capitals. We welcome Aiden to the team, I’m sure the fans will too.”

Aiden has spoken about his hopes for the upcoming season. “Signing for the Capitals was a no-brainer for me. After speaking with Lynchy it was clear to see that there are massive plans for the future of hockey in Edinburgh and I’d love to be a part of that. I can’t wait to get started and be able to see the fans back at Murrayfield after waiting so long to get back home.”

Keep an eye out for further signings in the coming days.
