SNL Champion Netminder Lands In Edinburgh

14/07/2022

Edinburgh Capitals Head Coach Steven Lynch has today confirmed netminder Craig Chalmers as his first signing for the 2022-23 Scottish National League campaign.

27 year old Chalmers brings a wealth of experience to the club. He arrives as a current SNL League Champion, having won the title with Kirkcaldy Kestrels last season.

Craig grew up playing in the Kirkcaldy Junior system before progressing into the SNL with the Kestrels in season 2012-13. He then spent the remainder of that campaign with Dundee Comets after a brief spell at Solway Sharks.

The following year Craig stepped up to the EIHL and was back-up goalie to Dundee Stars Dan Bakala. That season saw the Stars win the Gardiner Conference title with Craig featuring in three games throughout.

The next six seasons saw the Kirkcaldy-born goalie ice with Aberdeen Lynx in the SNL before returning to the Kestrels again last season.

Coach Lynch commented “I’m delighted with this first signing and to bring in a goalie with Craig’s skill and experience. He has proven to be a strong, reliable SNL starting goalie for several years at Dundee, Aberdeen, and Kirkcaldy while also spending some time in the Elite League as a back-up at Dundee Stars. When in the zone, he’s as good as any goalie in the league if not better and we welcome him to the Edinburgh Capitals. I can tell by speaking to him that he is looking forward to joining us and he will form one half of what will be an exciting goaltending tandem for us this year.”

On joining the Capitals Chalmers said “I’m happy to have signed with the Caps for the 2022-23 season. To be a part of the team’s rebuild is an exciting thought and we’ll be pushing for silverware in the first season. I’ve heard good things about the fans in Edinburgh so it’ll be great to put a strong team together and get the game back on home ice for them in October.”
