Edinburgh Capitals Head Coach Steven Lynch has named his on-ice leadership team for the 2022-23 SNL campaign.
The team captain for the coming season will be the highly experienced Joel Gautschi. At 31 years of age, Joel has a wealth of experience having played in the Scottish National League since 2010. Joel was also captain of Murrayfield Racers in what was a very successful spell from 2018-20. He played with the Edinburgh Capitals previously in both the EIHL and SNL.
Wearing the A’s on their jerseys will be forward Chad Smith, defenceman Ben Coughtrie (Home games), and forward Ross Borwick (Away games). Netminder Craig Chalmers will make up the 5th member of the leadership group bringing many years of experience with him.
Head Coach Lynch could not speak highly enough on the appointment of his new captain and assistant captains. “I always wanted to do something different from the usual 1 captain & 2 assistants most teams go with. By creating a leadership team of 5, we have a group that will lead both on and off the ice. Having said that, I believe we have way more than 5 leaders in this dressing room and I expect every player to bring a leadership quality to the team as the season goes on. However, the 5 that have been chosen all bring something a little extra to the group. Joel has the experience and respect of everyone in the room, Chad and Ross bring the noise and endless enthusiasm, I expect Ben to bring leadership by example on the ice and while making a goalie part of the team is a little different, in my mind it’s important as we will be no doubt be leaning on Craig from time to time throughout the season.”
