Russian forward Andrey Ogloblin has been confirmed as the second import signing for the Edinburgh Capitals for the 2022-23 SNL campaign.
The 22 year old, 6ft 4inch, power forward has been training with the Capitals for the last two weeks. His strong skating and work ethic have really impressed Head Coach, Steven Lynch.
Andrey was born in Russia before moving to Finland at an early age. He progressed through Junior Hockey in Finland playing with Viikinget Devils, GrlFK, HIFK, and HJK. During his spell with HIFK, he went on to win a U17 championship in season 2016-17.
The next stop for Andrey was a move here to Edinburgh, where he is currently attending Queen Margaret University. Pre covid he was part of the Edinburgh Eagles University team. He then returned to the Eagles last season and was handed the ‘C’. In 15 games last term, he scored 12 goals and 4 assists for 16 points. Current Capitals forward Jack Wright was also a teammate of Andrey’s on the Eagles roster.
Andrey is excited to get going for the new campaign. “After attending the Capitals first practice to see if I could possibly become part of the team, I was filled with incredible energy from the coach and players. Now I am very excited to do my best for the team to achieve our goals for the coming season. I can’t wait for the start of the season, and our subsequent return to Murrayfield Ice Arena!”
Head Coach, Steven Lynch is delighted to get another player on board with the new season only two weeks away. “Andrey has been skating during Pre-season with us, with a view to making the team. He wants to play at a higher level than University hockey and I have been impressed with his desire, work ethic and commitment. He is a big body which is something we are a little bit short of up front, he has speed and shoots hard. I think that used correctly, he can become a valuable addition to the line-up over the course of the season. He was delighted when offered a spot, and I know he won’t let us down. We are still looking for one more non-British trained player to join us as I have stated previously the importance of competition for places, but now having Andrey along with Alex Christian in the line-up, we have a better chance of winning each night.”
