Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of 22-year-old defenceman, Ben Coughtrie for the 2023-24 SNL campaign.
Ben joined the club last summer having played the four previous years in the SNL and NIHL 1 with Solway Sharks. While at the Sharks he picked up a SNL title and was part of the treble-winning team in season 2021-22.
Last term here at Murrayfield, the Ayrshire-based blueliner proved to be a very solid addition to our defensive unit. In 27 games in all competitions, he scored 1 goal and 13 assists for 14 points. Incidentally, his only goal was an empty net marker which sealed the Northern Cup win against Whitley Warriors.
The former Scotland Junior Internationalist was a leader on and off the ice and was responsible for wearing an A on his jersey in the 2022-23 season.
Speaking on his return for another year, Ben had this to say. “I’m delighted to be back for my 2nd year as a Cap. Even though the season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, I absolutely loved playing every week in front of our great fans.
The noise from the Lion’s Den was unreal at times throughout the last campaign. I’m looking forward to kicking on from last season and picking up every bit of silverware we possibly can. Roll on September, Mon The Caps!”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is excited to have another part of his D core signed up. “Ben is another important player that we have secured for another year. He brings a good attitude and work ethic, is well-liked in the dressing room, and gives everything he has, game in, game out, and a lot of experience for someone still in his early twenties.
He quickly became a valuable member of our team after joining us from Solway last season and is another who enjoys playing here in Edinburgh in front of our great fans. Like all other returnees, he feels disappointed with the way last season ended and wants to make amends. We’re delighted to have him back and look for him to kick on from the good season he had last year.”
