Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the return of defenceman Dean Walker for the 2023-24 SNL campaign.
Deano grew up through the Murrayfield Junior system and has played all his hockey here in Edinburgh to date.
In 2014-15 he was selected to represent Scotland at U19 level and a few familiar names were on the Scotland roster that day – his current Caps teammates Chad Smith, Aaron Robertson and Sean Cochrane.
The 26-year-old iced with the Capitals SNL team first back in 2013-14, he remained part of the team for the following 5 years. In 2018-19 Deano signed on with the newly formed Murrayfield Racers and went on to have a successful couple of seasons, picking up a few trophies along the way, most notably the NIHL 1 North Cup. Due to the pandemic, he would then play reccy hockey with Edinburgh Knights before returning to the SNL last September as part of our Edinburgh Capitals roster.
In 27 games last term the stay-at-home blueliner grabbed 6 assists.
Deano is excited to be back again helping the team for the season ahead. “I’m delighted to be back for the upcoming season, I’m looking forward to playing in front of our unbelievable fans once again hopefully we can give them some silverware this season.
I hope everyone is having a nice summer and we will see you all in September.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch commented, “Dean is a welcome returnee to the squad for the 2023-24 campaign. Another very popular guy in the room, he keeps everyone else loose. He’s a player who came through the Murrayfield Junior system and someone who always gives 100%.
Playing for the Capitals means a lot to Dean and we’re looking for him to play an important part in the team this season.
It was key we brought back a strong core of the team back from last season and having Dean on board once again gives us great depth in our D unit. All of them will have a huge part to play throughout.”
The last pieces of the jigsaw are almost in place. Stay tuned for further signing news as we look to finalise our roster over the coming weeks.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
