Our #37 Is Back For More

16/05/2024

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Chad Smith for the 2024-25 campaign.

25-year-old Chad needs no introduction and has been one of the club’s top scorers over the last two seasons. He currently sits on 132 points from 71 games played in a Caps jersey.

In the 2023-24 campaign, Chad grabbed 35 goals and 38 assists for an impressive 73 points. He would finish second in the club scoring behind linemate Joel Gautschi. The two of them once again formed a lethal partnership on that first line causing many problems for defences across the league.

Having previously played a few years in the Elite League with Fife Flyers and Braehead Clan, Chad is one of the most experienced players on the roster even although he is still only mid-twenties.

He grew up learning his trade in the Kirkcaldy junior system and over the years he also represented GB at both U18 and U20 levels.

Chad is a winner and he was delighted to lift the SNL Play Off trophy and the Northern League last season, but he wants more. “I’m really excited to be back for a third season with the Caps. I love the city and the fans.

Last season was a progression from our first season back in the league it was good to win some silverware.

Lynchy is building a squad capable of winning even more this season so I’m really looking forward to being a part of it.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows how important it was to get Chad signed up and back for the new campaign. “It’s great news that we have managed to secure Chad’s services here in Edinburgh for another year as he has played a huge part in the success the club has had since reforming.

Not only has his on-ice contribution been huge for us over the last two seasons but he’s also a popular person, a leader, and a big influence on others in the dressing room.

He was always going to be one of the first guys I wanted to get things agreed with and I’m delighted that we have.

It was an easy conversation to get him to re-sign as the first thing he said when we met was how much he liked playing here. It’s nice to hear a player say things like that and it shows that Murrayfield is a good place to play where players are treated well.

We’ll be looking for more of the same from him this coming year and we will continue to build a squad that will challenge for silverware. Having Chad in our line-up will help us achieve that.”

The Caps support grew accustomed to Chad’s sliding bow and arrow celebration when he scored some big goals last year. We can’t wait to see him back at it once again in a Caps jersey come September.

More signing news is to follow very soon so keep an eye on the team’s social media pages to hear any updates.
