Griffin Enters The Lion’s Den

03/06/2025

Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce the new signing of netminder Liam Griffin for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.

Liam spent the last two years playing with North Ayrshire Wild, putting in impressive performances anytime he faced the Capitals. The 20-year-old stopper will relish the chance of playing here at Murrayfield and will form part of the goaltending duo for the upcoming season.

Born in Dundee, Liam progressed through the Dundee Junior system and also represented Scotland at all age groups. After Covid hit, he took his first steps into senior hockey when he signed with Dundee Comets in the SNL. A couple of his teammates that season were current Caps Scott Geddes and Joel Gautschi.

The following year, he would feature in only a handful of games for the Comets before stepping away from the sport for a spell. He then made the move to North Ayr during the summer of 2023, gaining valuable ice time to improve his game.

Head Coach Steven Lynch has known Liam for a number of years and coached him up in Dundee. He is delighted to have him onboard and said, “Firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Craig for three years of service with the Caps. It’s always disappointing to lose a good player and better person from your lineup, but he’s decided to focus on the next chapter of his life, and we respect his decision and wish him all the best.

“But in Liam, we feel that we have recruited a fantastic and more than able replacement. He’s a guy I’ve known since he was a young boy, having worked with him through the years in the National program and coached him for a year when I was at Dundee, so he’s no stranger to us either.

“He’s a goalie that already has plenty of SNL experience and still has bags of potential to fill. Playing here at a bigger club in Edinburgh will help him do that, and we’re delighted to have him on board.

“I’m sure the fans will welcome him to the Capitals and enjoy watching him throughout the season.”

Liam knows this is a fantastic opportunity for him and a chance to play in front of the Caps fans week in, week out. On signing with the club, he said, “I am more than excited to be joining the Capitals this season. After only hearing good things about the club and the fans, it was a pretty obvious answer for me.

“I can’t wait to play in front of one of, if not the biggest, fanbases in the SNL. I look forward to meeting the rest of the team come preseason, and I genuinely believe we can bring silverware back to the Lion’s Den.

With the announcement that Craig Chalmers will not be returning, the club has moved fast to secure one of the goalie spots.

More news will be coming soon as we keep adding to the roster.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
