Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of import defenceman Rihards Grigors for the 2026–2027 SNL campaign.
Ricky returns for his third season with the Capitals after spending the last two years with the club. The Latvian-born blueliner brings grit and physicality to our defence while also possessing the ability to contribute offensively when called upon.
Last season, the 34-year-old recorded 7 goals and 23 assists for 30 points in 40 appearances. Ricky also brings a wealth of experience, having previously played in the EIHL and NIHL before rejoining the Capitals.
This isn’t Ricky’s first spell in Edinburgh. He previously played for the club between 2016 and 2018 during our final years in the Elite League. He then went on to play for Milton Keynes Lightning, enjoyed a brief spell with the Fife Flyers, and spent three seasons with the Whitley Warriors in NIHL 1 before returning to the Scottish capital.
Earlier in his career, Ricky developed in his native Latvia before enjoying spells in Hungary, Germany, and Finland ahead of his move to the UK. We are delighted to have him back on board as we prepare to defend our league and Scottish Cup titles.
Speaking about his return, Ricky said, “I’m excited to be back in Edinburgh for the new season. Winning the league and Scottish Cup last year was something special, and I can’t wait to get back out there and defend those trophies.
“The Lion’s Den is a fantastic place to play, and the crowds we attracted last season made it a really enjoyable atmosphere. Hopefully, our fanbase continues to grow, and we can bring even more success to the club.
“In about a month’s time, we’ll be on the ice, and hockey will be back.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch was delighted to secure the return of his second import signing for the season, “Having Ricky back gives us a really strong defensive group because he brings something different to our blue line. He’s played in this league for a number of years, as well as other leagues across British ice hockey, so he has a lot of experience and knows exactly what’s required to be successful.
“He has an offensive side to his game, which is always valuable, but he can also play with plenty of grit when needed.
“Since joining us a couple of years ago, he’s fitted in brilliantly. He’s a popular guy in the dressing room, a great teammate, and we’re delighted to have him back once again.”
The new season is now only weeks away, and the roster will be completed very soon as the boys look forward to getting back on the ice.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
