5 In A Row For The Caps

Edinburgh Capitals v. Whitley Warriors (11-10-2025)

On Saturday night, in front of a packed home section, the Edinburgh Capitals took their unbeaten run to five games, defeating the number one placed team in the SNL, the Whitley Warriors, 3-1 in an electrifying match-up. The Warriors were certainly the best team the Caps had taken on this season, but the team was able to string together 60 hard, fast minutes to whizz past the Warriors. Chad Smith opened the scoring early in the second, with Captain Joel Gautschi burying the Capitals second of the game not long after. The Warriors were quick to respond with one of their own; however, the red hot Joe Lynch scored his 8th goal in five games to put the Caps up two. This would be the final goal of the game, with the Capitals assists coming from Cochrane, McNulty, Stewart, along with two from Lynch–putting him at three points on the night. Ben Keddie was between the pipes again and had another solid performance. While not seeing as many shots as he has in the past, he managed to stay hot, making several huge saves to keep the Capitals in the lead.

In the first period, both teams seemed to be testing each other’s limits. Hits were thrown and tempers flared as the pace of play ramped up to a speed not yet seen in the Murrayfield Ice Arena this season. Both teams had several chances with play moving up and down the ice; however, the defence and goalies were steadfast, keeping the game tied 0-0.

The Capitals were first to get on the board early in the second, with Chad Smith scoring only a few minutes in, followed by another from Gautschi only a minute and a half later. However, the Warriors offence did not give up without a fight, beating Keddie off a rebound to put them back within one a few minutes later. To their dismay, Joe Lynch seemed to take this personally, burying a goal just five minutes later and celebrating towards the Whitley fan section–in the end sealing victory for the Caps.

Though the third period was scoreless, it was no doubt the most exciting of the match. The Warriors picked up their pace, but Keddie and the Capitals defence came up strong to keep them at bay. After killing off a 5-on-3, the Warriors were rewarded with a late call putting them a man up for the remainder of the game. Keddie was all over the crease, making save after save with his defence helping by adding a few blocks of their own. Thanks to the great efforts of all the Capitals players, when the buzzer finally sounded, they sat nicely in the league standings with five wins from five.

Thank you to all of the fans who came out to support your Edinburgh Capitals this weekend! We hope to see you all again next weekend at the Murrayfield Ice Arena when the Capitals take on the Aberdeen Lynx in another highly anticipated match up on 18th October!
