Marty Makes His Move To The Caps

14/05/2026

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Marty Simpson for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.

Marty needs no introduction, having faced the Caps over the last four seasons whilst icing for the Paisley Pirates. On numerous occasions he scored big goals against us and has always been a thorn in our side. Finally, we have got him on board, and he will be a massive addition to our D unit this upcoming season.

The 27-year-old blueliner will bring a wealth of experience, having played in the SNL for well over a decade. He started his hockey career as a junior playing in his hometown of Kirkcaldy. He also represented Scotland from U11 all the way up to U17. He made his SNL debut back in season 2015-2016 with the Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

He would play with the Kestrels for the next 4 seasons before joining the newly formed Murrayfield Racers back in 2019-2020. After the pandemic, Marty moved along the M8 to join the Paisley Pirates, and that would remain home for the next five campaigns.

Last season for the Pirates he played in 35 games scoring 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points. He will bring offence to our D core but will also take pride in keeping the opposition forwards at bay.

On signing with the Caps Marty had this to say, “I’m really looking forward to getting started, playing in front of such a huge fan base and playing for such a well run club is what’s drawn me to come to Edinburgh.

“The fans are very loud and proud as I have seen the last few years being on the opposite side. It will be nice to have them with me going forward and not having them against me. As everyone knows the team had a great year last season and hopefully, we can push for as much silverware as possible this upcoming season.

“September will be here before we know it but until then have a great summer Caps fans and I can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to finally get Marty here in Edinburgh, “The signing that’s taken 4 years! I think I’ve spoken to Marty every summer since the Caps reformed and up until now, he’s always turned me down. We, as a club are delighted that he’s now joining us and can’t wait to see him in a Capitals jersey nest season.

“Marty is one of the top defencemen in this league and has been for some time now. He can produce offence from the back end, is strong defensively, a good puck mover, has size and strength, a lot of experience having played in this league for a number of years now, has a lot of respect from players around the league and is still only 27 years old.

“I’ve coached Marty before at various stages of junior hockey and I look forward to working with him again. Marty will also continue to work with the junior players at Murrayfield through the newly set up Caps Academy which will be vital to the clubs’ long-term success going forward.”

Stay tuned for more signing news very soon.
