Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Garry Simpson for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
Garry came to the club halfway through last season and brought us depth and experience that helped us towards the league title. In 19 games in a Caps jersey, he scored 17 goals, 11 assists for 28 points, and slotted nicely into our second line.
He will once again be reunited with his brother Marty, having both spent several years playing together with Paisley Pirates. At the start of last season, Garry iced with Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL 1 before moving back to Paisley just before Christmas. He then made the move here to the capital and enjoyed the rest of the campaign as a Caps player.
Still only 25, Garry has been around the leagues, having played with several teams over the last 10 years. He started his junior career in Kirkcaldy and progressed into the SNL with the Kestrels. From there he has iced with
Dundee Comets, Murrayfield Racers, Whitley Warriors, Bristol Pitbulls, and Deeside Dragons, as well as the Pirates and Hawks. Garry also represented Scotland at all junior levels from U11 to U17.
On returning for his first full season with the club, Garry said, “I really loved playing for the Caps last season as I got to play hockey with a smile on my face once again. I also got the love back for the sport.
“It was a no-brainer to come back to the Caps this season as the players welcomed me into the team like I had been playing there for years. They are a great bunch of lads.
“It’s so much better having such a loud fan base backing the team. They are like having a sixth player on the ice with them behind us every week, making Murrayfield a very special place to play.
“I’m really hoping to help the guys once again, and we want to be greedy and bring all the silverware that’s available back to the Den. Hopefully, I can continue and improve by putting points on the board to help the team.
See you all at the Den next season.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch knows he has signed another vital part of the forward line, “Garry came to us halfway through last season and instantly felt at home after moving around somewhat over the previous two or three years. We have a player we feel that, when comfortable and happy in his surroundings, will produce his best hockey as he’s playing at a club he enjoys being at.
“He fitted in well when he arrived and gave us more scoring and depth, so we’re excited that we get him for a full season to keep working with him and watch him grow. He’s also said how excited he is about playing with his brother again.
“Garry will have a big part to play within the team again this year as we continue to chase our goals.”
The team is slowly beginning to take shape. More signing news to come later in the week.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
