Aiden’s Back On The Blueline

25/05/2026

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of defenceman Aiden Paterson for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.

The 21-year-old will ice in his 5th consecutive season for the club when the puck drops this September. He has been almost ever-present since signing back in 2022-2023.

He came in then as a fresh-faced 17-year-old still learning the game after stepping out of junior hockey. He has now established himself as a very solid and consistent blueliner for the team and formed a great partnership on our first line last term with Sean Stewart.

Last year, he was also handed an ‘A’ on his jersey, which shows how far he has come in the last 4 seasons. In 147 games for the club, he has scored 12 goals and 53 assists for a total of 65 points, and he has picked up 122 penalty minutes.

In the 2025-2026 season, he posted 28 points, hit the net 5 times, and grabbed 23 assists, his best point return so far. Aiden will be looking to keep contributing to the scoring charts, but his main goal will be to play a major part on that D unit.

Aiden is a product of the Lanarkshire Lightning junior set up, and he also represented Scotland at the U15 & U17 level a few years back.

We caught up with him and asked him just why he wants to remain a Cap, “I’m delighted to return to the team for my 5th season. Last year was the most fun I’ve had playing hockey. We had a great blend of experience and youth, and it was amazing to be apart of.

“It was a no-brainer for me to return for 2026-2027. We have a strong core group of returning players from last year, and I’m sure we will add even more new blood into the lineup to push for more trophies next season!

“The club has made incredible strides over the last 4 years. I can’t wait to get going and play in front of our ever-growing fan base once again.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to have such a vital player back on the roster. “Aiden has become Mr Consistent with us over the years, which is possibly the biggest compliment we can give him – we know exactly what we are getting from him game in, game out.

“His development with us has been great to see. Last season, he became half of our number 1 shut-down pairing with Sean Stewart, started taking some valuable power-play time, and was given an assistant captain role within the team, highlighting his value to us.

“He’s a player who is well respected within the dressing room and is another year fiver, further showing how much players enjoy playing here at Murrayfield.”

Aiden is another important signing. Stay tuned for more news very soon.
