Homeboy Deano Is Back For More

23/06/2026

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of defenceman Dean Walker for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.

A fan favourite, Deano has been a key part of the club since our return in 2022. Last season, he played an important role on the blueline as the team secured a historic league and cup double. Across 36 games in all competitions, he contributed six assists.

Dean’s experience is invaluable, having spent well over a decade competing in the SNL. The 29-year-old Edinburgh-born defenceman has played all his hockey in Scotland’s capital. After developing through the Murrayfield junior system, he progressed into the Capitals’ SNL side in 2013.

He also spent two seasons with a successful Murrayfield Racers team between 2018 and 2020 before returning to the Capitals in 2022. He will once again play a significant role as we aim to defend our trophies. A fantastic character in the dressing room, Deano’s commitment and desire to succeed for the club is clear for everyone to see.

Speaking on his return, Deano said, “It’s great to be back. Edinburgh is home, and I love playing for this club. The group we have in the dressing room makes it a place you want to come to and play hockey week in, week out.

“A few new faces are coming in, and they will make us even stronger for the new season. We know every team will be looking to beat us, but we’ll be ready for the challenge. Last year was special, but we’re hungry for more success and, hopefully, come next April, we’ll have more silverware to celebrate.

“I can’t wait to skate out at the Lion’s Den again. The fans are the best in the league, and the crowds have been getting bigger and bigger, which makes it an incredible atmosphere to play in front of. See you all in a few months!”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows just how important players like Deano are both on and off the ice. “Deano probably had his best season with us last year. As an Edinburgh lad who grew up watching the Capitals, representing this club means a lot to him, and that shows every time he steps onto the ice.

“He was dependable and gave everything he had for the team. He’s a great presence in the dressing room and a brilliant teammate to have around.

“In previous years, he may have been viewed as our sixth defenceman, but this season I don’t want Dean to accept that role. I want him to push himself higher up the lineup because I know he can do that.

“We’re delighted to welcome back our #3 for another year.”

Deano becomes our 17th signing of the summer as the squad continues to take shape ahead of the new campaign.

More news will follow very soon.
