Edinburgh Capitals have confirmed the signing of 26 year old forward Sean Cochrane from Scottish National League winners Kirkcaldy Kestrels.
Sean joins the Capitals for the upcoming 2022-23 SNL campaign. This will be the first time in his career he has played hockey away from his hometown of Kirkcaldy.
Having grown up through the Kirkcaldy Junior system, Sean first pulled on the Kestrels jersey at SNL level back in season 2012-13. Whilst still playing U18 and U20 junior hockey for Fife, he was also icing with the Kestrels and gaining valuable experience. During his junior hockey days, Sean also represented Scotland at U13, U17, and U19 levels.
In 2016-17 in his first full year at the senior level, Sean was handed an A on his jersey, reflecting his leadership on the ice. From that point, Sean became a massive part of the Kestrels’ success over the years and won two SNL League titles along the way.
Last term, Sean finished second in the club’s league scoring, with 10 goals and 14 assists in 13 games. Coincidentally, finishing 4 points ahead of him on the scoring front is the Capitals’ recent signing, Chad Smith. Sean and Chad are excited to team up once again and look to win some silverware this season. He gained another 8 points during the Play Off’s, posting 3 goals and 5 assists.
Head Coach Steven Lynch was delighted to capture the signature of Cochrane. “This signing came a little out of the blue but I’m glad it did. Sean contacted me saying he was looking for a change which initially surprised me. We both know each other pretty well and after having a chat it was an easy decision for me to offer him a place on the team. Once he heard about what we are trying to do here in Edinburgh and the club we are rebuilding, I think it was an easy decision for him too. Sean has been a consistent player at the SNL level for several years now. He brings energy, a great work rate, and can play the power play and penalty kill. He’s going to be a vital part of the team in our quest for success going forward.”
Sean is relishing the chance to play here in Edinburgh. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for the Capitals. I’m looking forward to a new challenge and after seeing how Lynchy is building the team and his plans for this season and the future it was a no-brainer to make the jump. I will be aiming for silverware and nothing less this season and I will be hoping to be a big part of that success.”
More signing news will be released soon.
