Edinburgh Duo Return Back Home

05/08/2022

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the double signing of 26 year old forward Steven Clark and 29 year old defenceman Josh Quinn.

Clark is no stranger to the club, having iced in the Scottish National League previously with the Capitals. Clark is a no-nonsense forward who will bring some grit to the team with his style of play. He is another player who has grown up playing in the Murrayfield Junior system before stepping up to the Caps SNL team back in 2013-14. He appeared once in the Elite League when he featured in the 2012-13 season whilst also playing at the U18 level. Steven was a part of the Capitals Academy and benefited from training and playing with the Elite League players.

Steven has been fortunate to win the SNL League title on two occasions, initially with the Edinburgh Capitals in 2013-14 followed by his first year as a Murrayfield Racer in 2018-19. He arrived mid-season for the Racers that year and also played a part in the Stuart Robertson Cup victory. The following year, he returned to the Racers and proceeded to retain the Stuart Robertson Cup and also lift the NIHL North 1 Cup.

Steven is eager to get back on the ice and help the Capitals chase for silverware this season. “I am excited to get back on the ice with a lot of my old teammates and to get back in my home rink. It’s great to see the Caps back and it will be good to get back into the Lion’s Den! I have played in that rink since I was 11 years old and I am buzzing after a long wait to be getting back into it. I think it’s going to be a tough season but I have no doubt that the boys will pull together and show what the Caps are made of and bring home some silverware! I think it will be good to be playing under Steven Lynch and I think he will help get us to the level we need to be at to compete for trophies. It is also great to hear all the new players coming over. I look forward to playing alongside them and seeing what each individual brings to the Club. Let’s start the Caps back with a bang! I can’t wait to see all the fans again, banging their drums and cheering us on. Let’s Go Caps!”

Quinn is also known for his previous time with the Capitals SNL team, having played with the club from 2013-18. He was a teammate of Clark’s and went on to win the SNL League title in his first season with the Capitals back in 2013-14.

Having grown up through the Murrayfield Junior system, it was a natural progression for Josh to continue into senior hockey in Edinburgh. After his time with the Capitals, he then played a year with Murrayfield Racers in 2018-19. This was to be another successful campaign, winning the SNL League title for the second occasion and the Stuart Robertson Trophy. Josh will be a solid addition to the blue line and he will look to use his experience over the coming season to push the Caps to silverware.

Josh is looking forward to getting back on the ice for the season ahead. “It’s great to see Edinburgh Capitals returning to Murrayfield! I’m also looking forward to returning to the ice under new Head Coach Steven Lynch. I can’t wait to be back with a lot of my old teammates and the new guys that have been brought in. Let’s get this season started! Mon the Caps!!”

Head coach Steven Lynch was delighted to add another two vital parts to his roster. “We said at the beginning before we started to put a team together, that it was vital that we had a nucleus of local Edinburgh guys that have come through the junior system. Steven and Josh help give us that and add to the team’s depth. If we want to challenge for silverware this year we need competition for places and guys need to know that they can’t take a night off or others are ready to take their spot. They have played for both the Capitals and the Racers in the past so they know the SNL and what it takes to succeed. I’m delighted they’ve both decided to return and look forward to working with them.”

More signings will be announced in the days to come.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
