Veteran Forward Returns Home

12/11/2022
Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of veteran forward, Ian Blake, for the remainder of the 2022-23 SNL campaign.
37 year old Ian, brings EIHL experience having played with the Capitals for two years in the top flight, back in 2010-2012. Although he was unable to post any points he featured in 54 games for the club.
Blakey has played for several years in the SNL. He has played with the Caps from the late 2000s up to 2017 with a spell in Paisley and Dundee also on his CV.
Having grown up playing junior in-line hockey, Ian went on to represent Great Britain, before deciding to try playing ice hockey. Given a chance Ian will score goals, having put up decent numbers throughout his career in this league.
Head Coach Steven Lynch has been impressed with Ian who has trained with the team over the last few weeks. “We’ve been looking to add to the squad as we’ve been a little short-benched a few times when one or two guys have been injured or unavailable. Ian has been skating with us for a couple of weeks and wants to get back into the game after 3 or 4 years out. He will give our forward group a little bit more depth and competition for places. We are continuing to look to add to our squad and have some more exciting news imminent.”
Ian is delighted to be back on the ice pulling on the Caps jersey. “I’m extremely excited to be back at the Caps and back playing again. If I’m being honest the thought of me coming back to the team, or even ice hockey, was never on my mind really. However, when I was presented with the opportunity to join the team for some ice time, I couldn’t say no, even more so with Murrayfield reopening. I came to support the boys on Sunday against the Lynx, which instantly brought back so many good memories from back in the days with the Caps! Even though the score line didn’t go our way, I thought in the second & third periods the team showed great teamwork and determination, which instantly made me want to be part of the team and especially in front of a home crowd like that! The Caps fans have always been some of the best fans to play for!”
Ian will be icing tonight against Whitley Warriors in the Northern Challenge Cup.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
