D-man Aiden Signs On

17/04/2023
Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce our 4th re-signing for the upcoming 2023-24 SNL campaign. We are excited to welcome back 18-year-old defenceman, Aiden Paterson.

Aiden arrived at the club last summer in what was his first year playing senior hockey. He also had a spell out of the game over the covid years but he was really eager to get back on the ice. As the season progressed Aiden became a very important player for the club, logging big minutes in most games.

There were only two players who iced in all 31 games last season and Aiden was one of them. In those games, he scored 2 goals, and 12 assists for 14 points.

Aiden will look to keep progressing this coming season and he had this to say on his return, “It was a no-brainer for me to return to the Caps. Last year was a massive learning curve for me as a player. Going from not playing any sort of competitive hockey in over 18 months, to last season playing over 30 games was a real eye-opener.

As a young player, I learned so much last year. If I ever needed any advice on how to improve my game, both my teammates and the coaching staff were more than willing to help.

Although last season was a tough one to take, falling short of our goals. Going into next season I believe with the signings we have already made and a bit of recruitment over the summer, we should be aiming to win as many trophies as possible.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch was delighted to get Aiden signed up early on, “Aiden had a good first year in senior hockey and made the transition from junior and being out of the game for a couple of years due to covid very well. He was trusted with important minutes at 5on5 and also saw time on both the penalty kill and power play. He often shows maturity beyond his 18 years and plays with a calmness when he is on the ice and is an extremely coachable person.

He still has improvements to make which I’m sure he will continue to do so. He is an important member of our defensive group and I’m delighted that he’s chosen to remain in Edinburgh for another year.

We said at the beginning that we wanted to make this a place that when players come, they don’t want to leave. That’s certainly the impression I get when talking to Aiden and I look forward to working with him again and watching him develop further.”

More signings news will be released very soon on our media channels.
