Hoggan Is A Capital

29/04/2023
Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of netminder Ciaran Hoggan from fellow SNL team, Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

Ciaran is our first new signing for the 2023-24 SNL campaign. He joins the team as the second part of our netminding duo along with the recently announced returnee, Craig Chalmers.

Head Coach Steven Lynch moved fast to secure the signature of the 25-year-old goalie knowing he would not be heading back to the Kestrels.

‘Titch’ as Ciaran is better known, started playing hockey as a 5-year-old and progressed through the Dundee junior system. He would also go on to represent Scotland at U11 and U13 level. In his later junior years, he had a brief call-up to Dundee Stars in the EIHL as a backup goalie in season 2013-14. This was the same season Craig Chalmers was Stars number two.

The following year he broke into the SNL with Dundee Comets while also playing U20 hockey. This led to a season at Dundee Tigers before returning to the Comets. From there it was up to Aberdeen to join the Lynx in season 2019-20. There he would share the goalie duties with a familiar face, that man again, Craig Chalmers.

Last year in Kirkcaldy he iced in 10 games for the Kestrels producing a 90.20 SV%. He also played one game as a backup for the Fife Flyers in the EIHL.

The club signed Ciaran after Harry Elder informed the Capitals that he would be moving on to pastures new this coming campaign. The club would like to wish Harry the best of luck going forward and thank him for his service to the Capitals last season. Harry put in some very impressive performances when called upon and was a very well-liked character in the locker room.

Speaking to Ciaran, he can’t wait to join his new team, “I’ve played across the country, from Dundee to Aberdeen to Fife, BUT I am now ready for my biggest opportunity, to play for the Edinburgh Capitals.

I am very excited to be signing for the Capitals for the 2023-24 season. The Edinburgh fans are a dedicated and loud bunch, exactly what I expect from ice hockey fans. Now let’s go out there this September, play some great hockey and blow the roof off the Lion’s Den here at Murrayfield!”

Head Coach Steven Lynch had this to say on his new goalie addition, “First of all, I’d like to thank Harry Elder for his time and effort with the team last year. He unfortunately didn’t get the time in the net he would have liked and wanted to try something new and we wish him all the best with the new opportunity he has.

With that said, I’m delighted that we’ve signed Ciaran so quickly as his replacement. He played in some big games for Kirkcaldy last season, got some big wins, and put up good numbers along the way. Once he got in touch with me to say he was available, we had a chat where he liked the sound of what we are in the process of doing here in Edinburgh and we didn’t hesitate in signing him for the coming season.

He’ll make one half of a strong goaltending tandem along with Craig Chalmers and both will work together and drive each other on to be as good as they can be each night.”

More signing news will be released tomorrow.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
