Top Scorer Chad Returns

07/04/2023

Edinburgh Capitals Head Coach Steven Lynch has moved fast and secured his first signing for the 2023-24 SNL campaign.

We are delighted to announce that our top scorer from the 2022-23 season, Chad Smith will again be wearing the Capitals jersey come September.

Re-signing Chad is a massive statement of intent that we are looking to go one better than our 2nd place finish this season and pick up silverware next season.

Chad joined the Caps last summer after winning the SNL title with Kirkcaldy Kestrels. Right from the start Chad showed he was one of the top forwards in the league scoring consistently week in, week out. He brought Elite League experience to the team having iced with both Fife Flyers and Braehead Clan in previous years.

Chad finished last season with 33 goals and 26 assists for 59 points in 30 games.

Coach Lynch is delighted to have Chad back once again, “Having last year’s top scorer back was the first signing I wanted to secure. Chad and I started talking about next year a few weeks ago and once he made it clear he wanted to return, we acted quickly to make it happen.

He was a pivotal player for us who was a leader on the ice as well as off. I really enjoyed working with him last year as he’s not just a good hockey player but a good person too. He shares my frustrations on the way this season finished and he’s keen to play a big part in making amends next year.

I’m delighted he’s back and this will be the first of many signings with both returnees from this season’s team and new additions to the roster for next season as we start to prepare our challenge.”

Chad gave his reasons as to why he has returned, “It was an easy decision to sign back for the Caps next season. Since signing I’ve loved every minute, the club is well-run, and the backroom staff, coaches and fans are all amazing. The team last year was also a great bunch of guys.

I think we showed this season that we are capable of winning silverware and I’m confident after speaking to Lynchy that next year will be our season. The team and I will be working hard over the summer and will be back bigger and better, with a point to prove starting in September.”

More signings will follow in the coming weeks.
