Play Off Winner Lands In Edinburgh

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the new signing of defenceman, Scott Geddes from Dundee Comets.

The Kirkcaldy-born blueliner will join the Capitals roster for the upcoming 2023-24 SNL campaign. Scott isn’t unfamiliar around these parts and was a Murrayfield Racer from 2018-2020.

Having grown up through the Kirkcaldy junior system the 6ft 2, D-man stepped up to the SNL first with Kirkcaldy Kestrels before joining the Dundee Tigers in 2014. He would spend 4 seasons as a Tiger before arriving here in Edinburgh to join the Racers.

In his two years at Murrayfield, he lifted some silverware along the way. In his first season, he grabbed the SNL League title and the following year he was part of the team that won the NIHL North Cup. Unfortunately for Scott though he could only ice half the season after an ankle break cut his season short. He had signed on for a 3rd season with the Racers in 2020-21 but the club failed to take to the ice due to the pandemic.

It was a fresh start in season 2021-22 when he returned to Dundee, this time to become a Comet. Again it was another successful season as he helped the team pick up the SNL Play Off title. Last season he lifted another two trophies with the Comets. This time the Scottish Cup was added to list whilst also retaining the Play Off title.

In 29 games last term, Scott scored 2 goals, 13 assists for 15 points.

The 29 year old had this to say about signing on with the Capitals, “I decided to join the Caps as I wanted to be part of an exciting time for hockey here in Edinburgh. I’ve spoken with Lynchy and I’m excited by his ideas and his ambition to make the Caps the best team in the league.

I’m really looking forward to getting started with the team, meeting up with a lot of familiar faces and getting to know a few guys I haven’t played with before. The Caps were a tough team to play against last season and hopefully, I can help the team push on and get some silverware this coming season.

I enjoyed my previous time playing in Edinburgh and am looking forward to a fresh start with a new team. The fans in Edinburgh are passionate and really get behind the team so hopefully this year we can win a few trophies for them and have a successful year.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to sign such an experienced player at the back end, “Scott’s a player I’ve admired from afar for a few years now. I got to know him a little bit when I spent a season in Dundee when he and I were both there. I coached the U19s, he was an SNL player but what impressed me was the fact that he jumped on the ice with us most weeks to get extra ice. Not many players will do that which I liked.

He’s exactly the type of defenceman we’re looking for and what we need. He keeps his game simple, does the basics well, knows his strengths, will provide us with some veteran leadership, and will make our defensive group better. He also has experience of playing at Murrayfield previously and we welcome him to our club.”

More signing news will follow soon.
