Blakey Returns For Another Year

14/06/2023

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce our 13th re-signing of the summer. It’s a very warm welcome back to forward, Ian Blake, for the 2023-24 SNL campaign.

Blakey signed up with the team a month into last season and brought a wealth of experience to the roster. The 38 year old veteran ended up playing in 21 games scoring 2 goals, 4 assists for 6 points.

The English-born right winger has played the majority of his career in the SNL, most notably with the Caps and a couple of years up in Dundee with the Comets. He also spent two years playing in the Elite League as a Capital back in 2010-2012. Incidentally, our captain Joel Gautschi was also on the EIHL roster of the Capitals at that time.

As you will also be aware Ian is currently the Head Coach of the Edinburgh Capitals Inline Team this summer at Murrayfield Ice Arena. Ian started his younger years playing Inline Hockey before making the transition to the ice.

On his return Blakey had this to say, “I’m delighted that Lynchy has asked me back for the 2023-2024 season. Last season was extremely close, going down to the final few games. We had a top bunch of boys on and off the ice and I’m looking forward to being a part of it again.

Last season, I didn’t pick up as many points as I’d hoped to but I will continue to give 100% with the hope of picking up some silverware with the boys.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch was again delighted to sign up another of last year’s team. “Why wouldn’t you want a guy like Blakey as a part of your team?

He’s 100% a great person, liked by everyone, doesn’t miss a practice, and has an enthusiasm for the game like a 17 year old. He’s also been working his ass off for the Edinburgh Capitals putting together an Inline team over the last few weeks, which after their first competitive game and victory, further shows his value to the organisation.

We, as a club welcome ‘Steak Blake’ back for another year and I know I can depend on him whenever the situation arises.”

More signing news will follow very soon. Stay tuned to the club’s media channels.
