Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce the signing of forward Kris Phillips for the 2024-25 SNL campaign.
Kris iced last season with Dundee Tigers grabbing 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 21 games. The 34 year old, 6ft 2 inch forward brings a wealth of experience to the line up having played in the Elite League as well as having over 12 years in the SNL to his CV.
Born in Dundee, Kris played junior hockey with Perth before joining the Dundee Tigers junior set up. Next stop would be a year in Fife as part of the Kirkcaldy junior system. This led to a year playing junior hockey in Canada with Toronto Canada Moose in the GMHL (Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League) in season 2009-10.
After returning from Canada Kris iced in 7 games for the Caps in the Elite League before joining hometown team Dundee Stars in their inaugural season in the top flight. Playing his first full season in senior hockey he grabbed 1 goal and 2 assists in 50 games for the Stars.
2011-12 would see Kris move to Fife Flyers to start the season and after 25 games he decided to step down to the SNL and sign with Dundee Tigers. Tigers would be home for the next 4 campaigns before switching to local rivals Dundee Comets in 2016-17.
Kris would go on to win the SNL title and Play Off title in 2017-18 as a Comet and incidentally this would be his best points return from his career to date when he scored 11 goals, 26 assists for 37 points in only 20 games.
Three years with the Comets then saw Covid hit and this would lead to a year of no hockey as we all know. Once things were back up and running it was a move through the west and Kris would sign on at Paisley Pirates for two years from 2021-23. This would then lead him back home to the Tigers at the start of last season.
Speaking with Kris he is excited at the opportunity to play here in Edinburgh. “I’m absolutely buzzing to be part of an organisation that really cares about their players and are committed and passionate about winning.
I cannot wait to get on the ice with the guys and play in front of an amazing fan base. I’m over the moon to be part of the Capitals family.
Playing against Edinburgh was always tough as you had the players and the noise to contend with, the atmosphere was always amazing and now I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is excited to bring in Kris to the club. “Adding Kris will give us some size and experience to our forward group. He’s a big unit who knows how to use his size to his advantage.
He’s been around for a while and knows how to play the game, he also brings us versatility as he can drop back on defence if required.
He’ll prove to be an important piece as the season goes on and I’m delighted we have him here in Edinburgh.”
Keep your eyes peeled for more signings as they happen Caps fans.
