Former GB U16 Arrives In The Capital

31/07/2024

Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce the signing of defenceman Cameron Wilkie for the 2024-25 SNL campaign.

The 18 year old, Kirkcaldy born D-man comes to the club having played last year up in Dundee with the Stars U19s. He started off the season in Kirkcaldy with the Kestrels before making the move to Tayside.

Cammy was also on a two way contract with Blackburn Hawks of the NIHL 1. Incidentally he faced the Caps here at Murrayfield when we beat the Hawks after OT in the Northern League back in early December. He would feature in 5 games for the Hawks gaining valuable experience playing in a different league.

His early hockey days saw him come through the Kirkcaldy junior system. He would go on to represent Scotland at all age groups from U11-U19s. In season 2021-22 Cameron was selected to represent Team GB at U16 level and two of his teammates were current Cap Joe Lynch and former Cap Kyle Carruth.

That same season he broke into the Kestrels team and got his first taste of senior hockey. The following year he played the full season as a Kestrel icing in 27 games scoring 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points.

The chance to sign with the Caps was one Cammy could not turn down. “First of all I want to thank Steven for the opportunity, having been coached by Lynchy when I was a junior I’m delighted to be under his guidance again for the new season.

I can’t wait to get started and hope to help the boys gain that league title that they just fell short of the last two seasons. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the big crowd at the Lion’s Den. A big selling point for me to sign for the Caps was how professional they looked from an outsider’s point of view.

Hopefully we can make this a season to remember for the fans and the team.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch had this to say on his new young blueliner. “I’ve known Cammy since he took his first steps on ice at Learn to Play with me when he was 6 or 7. I know what his strengths are and where his weaknesses lie.

He’s represented GB in the past so we are getting another good young player here in Edinburgh. I’m looking forward to working with him again to try and help him develop his game to take him to the next level.”

The roster is nearing completion and the new season awaits. Keep up to date on all things Capitals through our social media channels.
