Veteran Dags Returns To The Roster

02/08/2024

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of Assistant Player Coach Ross Dalgleish for the 2024-25 SNL campaign.

Dags, now in the veteran stage of his career at 36 years old, will bring his experience once again to the roster having previously played at the highest level in the UK with the Caps, Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers.

In 29 games for the club last season he scored 3 goals and 13 assists for 16 points. Dags can play either on the blueline or as a forward therefore he brings that versatility to the line-up that will come in very handy as the season progresses.

Last season he also turned to coaching and was Assistant Coach to Steven Lynch, mainly running the defensive unit. He will continue his role this coming season hoping to help guide the club to more success.

Starting off as a junior here at Murrayfield, Dags progressed through the years to eventually step up to the then BNL with the Caps in 2004-05, yes 20 years ago!!! The following season would be the clubs first in the Elite League and he would ice for the next 6 years at the top level in Britain. 4 in Edinburgh, a season in Nottingham and one in Belfast.

A few years out the game saw a return to his hometown team and Dags joined the Caps SNL roster in 2013-14, going on to win the League title alongside current Cap Joel Gautschi. Another spell away from the game saw him return at the start of 2022-23 when the Caps returned to the ice.

Talking about signing for the new campaign, Dags had this to say, “I’m really happy to be back once again for the new season and to be part of this super exciting group Stevie has been busy building over the summer.

I can’t wait to get out on the ice with everyone and see what this season brings for us all. Last time out we had a fairly successful year but we want more and will be giving our all in every game we take to the ice.

It will be great to be back out there in front of the great Caps fans and see the old barn rocking once again.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to get his right hand man back onboard. “You can never have enough experience in your line-up and having Dags back for another year certainly helps with that. The guy brings certain things to the team that other guys can’t. He’s been there, seen it and done it at levels a lot higher than the SNL and I’m delighted that we’re getting one more year out of him.

He will provide us with more depth throughout or line-up, can play both forward and defence and will also be a part of the coaching team once again.

We welcome him back to Murrayfield in what he says will be his last season – although I’ve heard that from him before….”

The roster is very close to being complete and we hope you are happy with the team that’s been assembled. The countdown is now well and truly on for the new season.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
