Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to welcome back import defenceman Rihards Grigors for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.
Last summer, Rihards returned to the club having iced with the Capitals in the Elite League back in 2016-2018. He was able to post 12 goals, 29 assists for 41 points in 34 games last term, finishing 4th in the team scoring charts.
‘Ricky’ brings experience to our D unit as well as speed and a bit of grit. The Latvian-born blueliner started his career in his homeland before spells playing in Germany, Hungary, and Finland. It was back in 2016 that he signed here with the Caps.
He would then head down to England for a year at Milton Keynes in the Elite League before a return to the capital to join the newly formed Murrayfield Racers. After a successful spell with the Racers, it was off to Whitley Bay where he played with the Warriors for 3 seasons in the NIHL 1.
On returning for a second season, Rihards said, “I’m happy to be back for another season here in Edinburgh. It was nice to return to the club I started my UK career with, and it was a fun year.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t win any silverware, so we are more determined to set that right this season. The team is coming together nicely with a few new faces and a few returning players, and I’m sure that come the first face off, we will have a team the fans can be excited to watch every week.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is happy to fill his first import slot on the roster and said, “I’m delighted to have Ricky back for another year. We knew there were other teams interested in him, but we weren’t too worried as he enjoys playing here and likes the way the club is set up.
“If we’re to have success this year, we know and he knows that he’s going to play a massive part in that, and we’re a better team with him in the lineup.
“Having a defenceman that can carry the puck, contribute offensively, and put up numbers is a great thing to have on your roster. Add in the grit and toughness he brings, and it makes him a valuable player to have in a Caps jersey for another season.”
