Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of defenceman Aiden Paterson for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.
This will be Aiden’s 4th season here in the Lion’s Den, having signed as a 17-year-old back in 2022. Now, at the age of 20, Aiden has progressed into a very steady and consistent performer on our blueline. He has grown season by season and last year showed how far he had come with his impressive performances game after game.
Aiden grew up as part of the Lanarkshire Lighting junior programme before stepping into senior hockey here at the Capitals. He has gained valuable experience playing alongside Dmen such as James Isaacs and Rihards Grigors, and this is now showing out on the ice.
In the last 3 years, Aiden has missed only 1 game. He has made 108 appearances, scoring 7 goals and 31 assists for 38 points.
Aiden is a great teammate both on and off the ice, and if we are to have any success in the new season, he will play a key part at the back end. On returning for another year, Aiden said, “I’m delighted to be back for my fourth season with the Caps.
“The way last season ended was extremely disappointing for myself and the rest of the team. However, this year I’m eager to get back to winning ways, and with the signings that the coaching team have made so far, we are definitely heading in the right direction.
“I can’t wait to get back on the ice in front of the fans and win some more trophies!”
Newly appointed Assistant Coach Chad Smith knows how important it is to get Aiden signed up. “Since Aiden joined the club, he has improved each season. He is now one of the most sought-after D men in the league, so it was vital to get Aiden back for his 4th year with us.
“Aiden goes under the radar quite often, but is a huge player for us at the back end. He is our ‘Ironman’ that is always available when you need him. Again, this season we will be looking for Aiden to play a key part on our D unit in our hunt for silverware.
“He is reliable and a consistent performer, that’s exactly what we are looking for on our blueline.”
Aiden joins Chad Smith, Joel Gautschi, Joe Lynch, Conner McNulty, Liam Griffin, and Rihards Grigors on the roster at present. It’s still very early on in the summer, but already the club is signing well for the new season.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
