Dags Not Done Yet

02/07/2025

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of veteran Ross Dalgleish for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.

The 37-year-old had a stop-start season last year due to injury and suspension, but he is eager to go for the upcoming campaign. Dags is very versatile and can play both forward and back on the blueline, and this will be massive as the season moves on.

In 18 games last term, the Edinburgh-born utility man scored 4 goals and 2 assists. He will again bring that experience, having been around the leagues for many years and playing several seasons in the Elite League with the Capitals, Belfast Giants, and Nottingham Panthers.

Since the clubs’ return in 2022, Dags has iced in 75 games, scoring 9 goals and 25 assists for a total of 34 points. Off the ice, he brings experience to the locker room and is always on hand to help out with the younger players.

On his return, Dags had this to say, “I am extremely excited to be part of the Edinburgh Capitals organisation for another season.

“Our supporters are amazing, and the growth we witnessed within the fan base over the last few seasons has been exceptional. It’s testament to the hard work and exciting hockey the team plays.

“I can’t wait to experience another season with friends, family, and this great bunch of guys. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this team again.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows how important it is to have players like Dags onboard. “Three years in a row, at the end of every April, Dags has told me he’s calling it a day.

“Then around mid-June, his name appears on my phone, calling me to ask how the team’s looking. It’s like Groundhog Day now – I can set my calendar by it!! We’ll chat about hockey, family, life etc, and then he’ll say, “So I was thinking about doing this for another year if there’s a place for me”.

“My answer’s the same every year, “There’s always spots on this team for great people, Dags”. And that’s it, he’s locked in for another year.

“Dags is a great guy. Leader, character, mentor of the younger players, and a bucket load of experience are just some of the qualities he brings to the group while doing them all in his own unique, different, and sometimes crazy way. He made a mistake last year, which cut his season short. We weren’t as good a team without him, and I’d have hated if his hockey career had to end that way.

“So I’m delighted he’s back again, and I’m sure that the fans and the boys will love having their Uncle Dags around for another year.”

Another important signing locked in, who will be next?
