Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce that Murrayfield Juniors trio Justin Finnigan, Jonnie Livingstone, and Charlie McLoughlin-Hanna will train with the club this upcoming season.
Forward Justin and goalie Jonnie, both of whom trained with the team all of last term, will now be joined by Defenseman Charlie. All three will continue to play junior hockey as well as being involved with the Caps. If and when the opportunity arises to feature in games, they will step into the lineup.
15 year old Justin was captain of the Murrayfield U16s last season. He scored 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 16 games. He was also part of the Murrayfield U19s and finished 2nd top scorer with 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 16 games.
Jonnie, also 15, was in net for the Murrayfield U16s last term. He also stepped up to the U19s towards the end of the season, gaining valuable experience. Jonnie was selected to play for Scotland U15s and was part of the team that headed to Finland at the start of the year to represent his country.
Charlie, like the others, is 15 years of age and plays on the blueline. Last season, he iced with both the U16s and U19s here at Murrayfield, posting a total of 5 goals and 7 assists for 12 points. His impressive performances led to him being selected in the same Scotland U15s team as Jonnie, playing in Finland.
The three youngsters won individual awards for the Juniors at the end of last season. Justin picked up U16’s Player of the Year and Club Forward of the Year, Jonnie won U16’s Most Improved Player and Club Netminder of the Year, and Charlie grabbed the Club Defenceman of the Year.
This is a fantastic opportunity for these kids to gain valuable experience training at a senior level and hopefully breaking into the team in the future. It’s great to see that both the club and Murrayfield Juniors are working closely together to try and bring our own players through the system.
Head Coach Steven Lynch said, “It’s important for the future of the club that we continue to build a production line of young players coming through from the junior system. These three are all showing signs that they may have a future with the team, and we want to help develop them over the coming season.
“They’re still raw, have a lot to learn, and they all need to develop physically as they’re all still 15, but they are all showing some promise, which the coaching staff are excited about.”
The season is nearly upon us, the team is ready to hit the ice, and we can’t wait to see you all back in the Lion’s Den in just over a week.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
