Edinburgh Capitals v. Paisley Pirates (4/10/2025)
This Saturday, the Edinburgh Capitals defeated the Paisley Pirates in a hard-fought 4-1 victory at home. The Caps controlled much of the pace of play; however, the rough-nosed Pirates kept the home team on their toes for much of the game. Sean Cochrane had an impressive performance this weekend, tallying two goals, with one coming in the first two minutes of the game. Other scorers included Aaron Robertson and new addition Kyle Howie, who scored his first official goal in a Caps uniform. Ben Keddie was between the pipes again this weekend. After giving up a goal on the first shot of the game, he recovered, stopping the next 35 to cap another impressive performance. Chad Smith also finished the night with two assists, continuing his streak, with Grigors, Geddes, Paterson, Lynch, and Walker all with one each.
The first five minutes of the opening period saw three goals scored between both teams. Cochrane opened the scoring with a beautiful shot, beating the Pirates’ keeper past his glove, with Robertson scoring just a few minutes after to make it 2-0 Caps. However, the Paisley team capitalised on a bit of luck a minute later, when a Caps defender lost an edge, leading to a breakaway goal.
In the second, the Caps scored again early, this time it was a well-placed tip by Kyle Howie, who got his stick on a point shot by Paterson. This was the only goal of the period thanks to several big saves from goaltender Ben Keddie, who kept the Caps in the game when their offence faltered in the remainder of the period. The second was the only period in which Paisley seemed to match the Caps, playing tough defence and tallying 19 total shots.
The third saw yet another early goal by the Caps, with Cochrane scoring his second of the game with a redirect off a Dean Walker point shot. This goal sealed the game for the Caps, with the Pirates making a slight push in the middle portion of the period after a power play gave them some momentum. But, it wasn’t enough to get another past Keddie and the Caps defence, who kept the rest of the game scoreless to cap off another great win at home.
Thank you to all who came out to support the Capitals this Saturday. We look forward to seeing all of you when the table-topping Whitley Warriors come to Murrayfield next weekend! (11/10)
