What A Gr8t Weekend Of Hockey

Edinburgh Capitals v. Dundee Rockets (25/10/25)

The Edinburgh Capitals juggernaut continued to steam through the SNL this weekend after winning both games against the Dundee Rockets.

On Saturday, the Caps were at home in front of a lively crowd who helped them get out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Joe Lynch continued his unbelievable offensive streak, scoring the first Caps goal and assisting on Chad Smith’s goal several minutes later.

The second period was scoreless for both teams, with play and possession swapping constantly up and down the ice. Both goaltenders made several outstanding saves to keep both their teams in it as the offence remained active for both sides.

It was the third and final period in which the drama of the game truly began to unfold. With both teams exhausted from killing multiple penalties over the course of the first two periods, the desperation to take the first game of the double header was plain to see.

Joe Lynch scored his second of the game early in the third; however, Dundee would score the next two shortly after to bring themselves within one headed into the final ten minutes. Although they had made a valiant comeback, Canadian import Sean Stewart struck the final blow with a long-shot empty net goal to stifle the Rockets momentum.

Dundee Rockets v Edinburgh Capitals (26/10/25)

On Sunday, the Caps made the trip up to Dundee to finish the two-game series on the road. With a win the night before, the Capitals clearly carried their momentum with them.

In the first, the Capitals offence exploded, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of the match. After Joe Lynch buried the first short-handed, the Rockets didn’t waste any time getting themselves on the board, scoring on the same power play they conceded on. Sean Cochrane scored the second for the Caps on a tip off a Sean Stewart point shot, with Joel Gautschi ripping a shot bar-down not long after. Joe Lynch buried the fourth late in the period off a McNulty assist to cement a strong Capitals lead.

The second nearly remained scoreless for both teams, thanks primarily to the outstanding netminding of Ben Keddie. The young goaltender stood on his head, making save after save, including a miraculous behind the back save on a wide-open attempt from the Rockets. It was clear in this period that the Caps were on the back foot, and with a late goal beating Keddie low to the blocker, the third was sure to be the biggest battle of the weekend.

Unfortunately, the Capitals fell apart in the third; their offence couldn’t beat the Rockets goalie, and their defence wasn’t handling the speed of the Rockets as they had all weekend. Keddie stopped what he could, but the Rockets brought the game back to level with two goals in the last five minutes of the period to force overtime.

However, in the overtime period, the Capitals sprang back to life, controlling the puck nearly the entire time from the opening face-off. The hero of the game was Rihards Grigors, who glided into the zone, making a move past the sole Dundee defender before roofing one past the Dale Shearer.

This weekend will surely stand as a landmark in the Caps season when it’s all said and done. After knocking off the reigning champions twice in one weekend and solidifying their place as the top team in the league, the Edinburgh Capitals will look to continue to roll their momentum into their match.

Thank you to all the Caps fans who were a part of the special crowd in Murrayfield on Saturday and to those who made the trip up to Dundee to see the lads through the weekend. We look forward to seeing you next weekend for their away Scottish Cup fixture against the North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday, and their home league fixture against the rough and tumble Paisley Pirates on Sunday!
