Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the return of Head Coach Steven Lynch for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
After a very successful year winning both the SNL League title and the Scottish Cup Lynchy will be back to lead the charge as we look to defend both these trophies. This will be his 5th consecutive year as Head Coach, having joined the club when we reformed back in 2022.
Since then, the former Caps player has also led the team to the SNL Play Off Trophy, the Northern League, and the Northern Challenge Cup, along with the two pieces of silverware we claimed in 2025-2026.
Lynchy will once again look to put a strong roster together to compete in every competition. Last year’s team had a mixture of experience and youth, and this proved vital during the campaign.
We spoke with Lynchy on his return, “I was adamant that last season was going to be my last year coaching. I’d told the team owners, my family, close friends, and a few other people. I was sure. I was positive. Told myself I wouldn’t change my mind.
“But when you’re a part of something special like this it’s impossible to walk away. What with the huge numbers of great fans that support us week in, week out and constantly rising attendances, the improvements being made to this great old building, the support & investment in the team from management like our new dressing room that would make some elite league teams jealous, the recent announcement of increasing the rinks capacity, working with and hanging out with a great bunch of guys and of course, a little bit of success on the ice, I can’t leave yet and it’s an incredibly exciting time to be at the helm of a club on the up and to see how far we can all take it.
“We set three main goals when I took the job 4 years ago. One, we wanted to win. Two, we wanted to run an amateur hockey club as professionally as it possibly could be run, and three, we wanted to make it a club that once players came, they wouldn’t want to leave.
“I guess number three applies to me, too.
“Have a great summer, Caps fans. It’ll be September again before you know it.”
Over the coming weeks and months, the club will begin to announce signings. As always this is an exciting time as we plan ahead for what will be another great season.
One thing we can assure you all is the team Coach Lynch puts on the ice will be one that will give everything for the club and the fans.
